Why Involuntary Omniscience Limits God—and Makes Love Impossible
For generations, believers have bought into an unexamined assumption: that honoring God’s power means believing He automatically has prior knowledge of every single second of human history. Even solid Christians struggle to question this premise because, in their heads, God simply has to know everything ahead of time.
Yet Scripture never actually says God is locked into involuntary omniscience.
What the Bible does maintain, over and over, is that God can do all things—as Job confesses in Job 42:2, “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted,” and Jesus confirms in Matthew 19:26, “with God all things are possible.”
Insisting that God must automatically know every detail of the future actually strips away His power. It argues that God has no self-control—that He is completely incapable of holding back knowledge or stepping back. Either God has the ability to restrain what He knows, or He is powerless against it. Either He is truly able, or He is not. Real omnipotence means having the power to do all things—including the sovereign choice to hold back prior knowledge so human history can genuinely unfold in real time.
When you set aside human philosophical traditions and read Scripture at face value, God repeatedly shows Himself as dynamic, relational, and actively observing reality as it happens:
If God had already watched the tape of Abraham’s life an eternity before creation, the words “now I know” are reduced to pure acting. The test was real, the outcome wasn’t locked in, and the discovery was genuine.
Apologists always try to explain this away by saying God was just asking “rhetorical questions” to give Adam and Cain a chance to confess. But that excuse just creates an even worse problem: now God is playing riddle games. Notice that God doesn’t open by asking, “What have you done?” He specifically questions the absence—because it was obvious something had happened to break the relationship.
If God already possessed total prior knowledge of the murder and knew with 100% certainty that Cain would get smart and ask, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”, then God is just playing coy. He is pretending He doesn’t know just to watch someone He created lie right to His face. That doesn’t depict divine grace; it borders on entrapment. Furthermore, you cannot genuinely “wait” on somebody to confess if their failure to confess was mechanically locked in before the earth was formed. Divine restraint is the only framework that keeps God’s character upright: He stepped into the moment, questioned the relational void, and offered an authentic, unscripted crossroad.
This cuts straight to the moral crisis at the heart of strict determinism: if God creates a human soul knowing with absolute certainty that their only destination is eternal torment, creation isn’t love—it’s just cruel.
Under an involuntary omniscience framework, God is basically assembling a machine designed to fail, punishing the machine for failing, and calling that justice. Stripped of authentic free will, God is no longer a loving Father; He is reduced to an abusive kid sitting in front of a toybox, assembling fragile figures solely to break them for the sake of destruction.
Scripture flatly rejects that caricature:
If human lives were just pre-scripted lines of code, these passages would be deceptive. Real justice demands real culpability. God can only judge the wicked righteously if they genuinely possessed the agency to walk in the opposite direction.
The entire biblical narrative hinges on a single truth: love cannot be forced.
John writes plainly in 1 John 4:8, 16 that “God is love.” In 1 Corinthians 13:4–5, Paul explains what love looks like: it “does not insist on its own way.” Love that forces its object into compliance stops being love.
This is why God laid out a genuine crossroads in Deuteronomy 30:19: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live.”
If you are running on an unalterable program—where every stone you trip over and every decision you make is locked in—then this whole life is an empty, unskippable cutscene. A doll with a pull-string that repeats “I love you” is not showing affection; it is running mechanical gears. Programmed adoration has zero relational value, and an all-powerful God has no use for an echo chamber.
Even God’s grief proves the openness of human freedom. In Genesis 6:6, when humanity abandoned righteousness, “the Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” You cannot experience genuine heartbreak over an outcome you intentionally programmed.
Now, people love to bring up Jeremiah 1:5 to defend the idea that everything is scripted: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
But context matters. God wasn’t laying down an automated, mechanical rule for all eight billion people; He was talking directly to Jeremiah about a specific calling. God intentionally stepped in, drafted a specific prophet for a high-stakes mission, and called him out. And what did Jeremiah do immediately after hearing that? He argued back, saying he was too young and didn’t know how to speak. If Jeremiah was merely running pre-written code, there is no argument and no resistance. God had a purpose for him, but Jeremiah still had to exercise his own free will to step into it.
None of this means the universe is spinning out of control or that God is sitting in heaven crossing His fingers, hoping things work out. God knows how the grand story ends because He wrote the final chapter. The victory over evil, the return of Christ, and the restoration of creation are already locked in.
Knowing how the story ends doesn’t mean God micromanages every choice you make. Think of it like a train: the destination is fixed, and that train is pulling into the final station no matter what. But whether you buy a ticket and get on board to be a part of the destination, or you stand on the tracks and get ran over by the train—that is completely on you.
God’s power guarantees the finish line. His love guarantees your right to choose. Without free will, faith is an illusion, judgment is unjust, and creation is a waste of time. With it, every choice to follow Him becomes an act of real, eternal love.

Undoubtedly, my faith in a divine creator has always been unwavering. Back in my elementary school days, I took it upon myself to write a compelling essay on the existence of God, without any prompting. I have always been certain that there is a greater purpose behind our existence, rejecting the notion of it being merely a random event or a stroke of luck. However, my beliefs did not include Jesus in this spiritual equation.
During my teenage years in the mid-1990s, I was introduced to the internet, which opened up a whole new world to me. As a result, I found myself drifting further away from Jesus. It’s no surprise that as a young person, the stories in the Bible may seem like whimsical fairytales, with talking plants and animals, and miraculous events like walking on water and resurrection from the dead.
I found myself leaning towards mocking Christians on the internet rather than engaging in what I considered to be absurd actions. I saw myself more akin to Saul, who transformed into Paul. I could present a convincing case that Jesus was neither the son of God nor a genuine historical figure. The idea of debating this on online platforms sparked my interest and excitement.
My exploration of criticizing people online for entertainment actually led me on a long journey towards deepening my connection with Jesus. This realization didn’t occur overnight, but gradually, things began to fall into place. One of the initial realizations was that Jesus, in fact, existed as a historical figure. Surprisingly, there is a wealth of information available about his life, more than what is typically found in standard history textbooks. However, this alone wasn’t enough to fully convince me.
A few years later, in my early 20s, I found myself deeply depressed and feeling lost in terms of my life purpose. One day, I received an invitation to a “lock in” event at a church. I decided to attend, thinking I had nothing to lose. To my surprise, I was welcomed into a warm and inviting community of people my age. The prayers, the singing, and the pastor’s charismatic and phenomenal speaking skills all resonated with me. Before I knew it, I found myself actually attending church services regularly.
But I still wasn’t fully convinced to actually take the plunge, pun intended, into the baptism pool. It still seemed creepy and cultish. I met with the pastor and this actually didn’t help the cause. He sat in his fancy suit in his office, cross-legged and filed his nails as I was asking random questions because I really didn’t know what to ask. I felt like he wasn’t even listening. It was a turn off and I kind of hit a road-block.
Soon after, I found myself back home in Detroit. I resided near Joy Road and Southfield. Those familiar with the neighborhood may recognize the name “MurderMac,” a McDonald’s nearby that earned its moniker for a reason. Situated across from the Harman Garden projects, it was clear that safety was not a top amenity in this part of the city. One night, as I slept on my couch with my son, we were abruptly awoken by the unsettling sounds of gunshots and police sirens in my front and backyard. Sadly, this was a common occurrence in our neighborhood.
What truly caught my attention, however, was the TV playing in the background. It was showing a program about the 12 followers of Jesus and the tragic endings they met. Each of them had faced execution in brutal ways, yet they remained steadfast in their beliefs until the very end. This revelation deeply impacted me and prompted a significant change within myself.
On that Sunday, I attended a Church with a lingering sense of change within me. Suddenly, an overwhelming feeling prompted me to rise when the pastor extended an invitation for baptism. I could almost hear cheering emanating from the congregation, but my emotions were too intense to fully comprehend. As I adorned a white robe and ascended the stairs towards the baptismal pool, the pastor began to speak about me, recalling details from our previous conversation in his office. It became apparent that he had been attentively listening all along. I was now officially a Child of Christ.

Since the late 90s, I’ve extensively debated religion on various platforms such as alt-discuss groups, AOL chats, and bulletin boards, in a time before “social media” existed. Back then, I was not only a non-believer but also capable of constructing a compelling argument against the existence of Jesus as a historical figure. Similar to Saul/Paul, I would ridicule Christians. It is important to note that I was not raised in a religious family.
Today, there are numerous social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok Live, with an abundance of TikTok lives in particular. Additionally, there is a noticeable rise in the number of self-proclaimed atheists who repeatedly pose the same question: “Why should I believe in the Christian God when there are 4000+ religions worldwide? Why should I have faith in the Bible?” This question may be presented in various manners, ranging from genuine curiosity to pure sarcasm or even outright animosity. Personally, I find the statement “I only believe in one less God than you do!” quite endearing. It possesses a certain charm, almost akin to poetry.
So I will just cut to the chase and I will summarize and then elaborate on the 5 reasons why the Christian God is the true God. The purpose of this is a quick response to those who ask the question, and what prompted this blog. I can simply direct them to my website instead of being constricted in a comment section.

The number of believers does not necessarily prove anything, but it can indicate the authenticity of something. If only a small tribal group on some small island follows it, then it is unlikely to appeal to a wider audience. After thousands of years, it should have gained global recognition, no? It’s that simple.
Does the religion worship a deity with an eagle head or an elephant-like form with multiple arms, or perhaps a turtle, cat, cow, or even the Sun? I have no doubts about dismissing such a religion since these entities cannot have emerged spontaneously. I aspire to discover the ultimate source. I can confidently dismiss numerous religions based on this viewpoint, including Hinduism from India and Nepal, as well as Zoroastrianism, ancient Greek, and Egyptian religion. I doubt the validity of religions that worship deities resembling animals, mythical creatures, or celestial objects. I am determined to uncover the ultimate origin and truth. Based on this perspective, I can confidently reject various religions.
There is a popular religion centered on the teachings of a man who claimed to have had a vision in a cave. I have no personal problem with followers of this faith, but the teachings of an individual alone do not convince me about various aspects, such as the afterlife. Interestingly, there are versions of Christianity that also revolve around a single figure who received a divine vision and solely based on that, require loyalty. I politely decline. I can also confidently reject many religions. If I have to rely on someone’s word alone, I immediately lose interest and stop investigating it.
Christianity offers multiple witnesses for the events documented in the Bible. Every aspect of our faith is supported by witnesses or the fulfillment of prophecies. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Paul provides a roster of individuals who witnessed the resurrected Jesus. These witnesses include the Apostle Peter, James (Jesus’ brother), and notably, a gathering of over 500 individuals simultaneously. In fact, The only debate worth noting is whether Jesus somehow survived the crucifixion, which would nullify the faith. According to a consensus of historians, a man named Jesus who lived where the Bible claims was most certainly Crucified. It’s history. As credible as any history book in any public school.

The Bible repeatedly encourages us to seek knowledge, study, and avoid being cast out due to ignorance. Therefore, Christianity does not advocate blind belief or submission to mere human words. As a result, I identify as a Christian because the Bible does not compel me to have blind faith or follow the words of any single individual.

Can you name another text that has faced extensive scrutiny, debate, and protest like Christianity and still remained credible? People have attempted to disprove the Bible and argued that Jesus is a derivative story based on ancient deities, but many years ago, a website created by “king David” effectively refuted every supposed deity that Jesus was allegedly copied from. Unfortunately, that website no longer exists, but there are numerous others that address this issue. (Try the wayback machine for old dead links). I have even come across a web-based database dedicated to exposing contradictions in the bible, but a counter database was created to discuss each alleged error. The rabbit hole of debate seems to continue endlessly.
There are Ted Talks, books, movies, TV shows, endless documentaries both positive and negative. Nothing on earth has been torn apart as much as the Bible and the bottom line is the argument goes on WITHOUT disproving the events of the bible.
Also, No other religion faces such frequent attacks. It makes me wonder why there are so many assaults on something that is deemed merely a myth or a fictional story. Why do people spend so much time on something they believe is made up?
What’s the catch? What’s in it for me?
Choosing my destiny is easy. The Bible does not impose any obligations. Believing grants me the gift of eternal life. This is reiterated multiple times. If I do not believe and reject the faith, I die when my time comes. Despite what some prominent Christian leaders may say, the Bible does not teach that nonbelievers or those who live a life of evil and sin will be tormented in an eternal inferno. This notion lacks logic, as experiencing pain and torture requires being alive. Rest assured, God did not create us to torture us for disobeying. In fact, the idea is foolish and raises unnecessary questions. God is not complex.
The Bible does not condemn sinners, non-believers, or evil-doers to eternal torture. Not a single verse can be provided that states this. This idea likely originates from distortions by individuals and preachers seeking financial support from their congregation.

There’s actually hundreds of sources that flat out debunk the hellfire preaching that some churches have abused to scare their flock into the pews and into their wallets.
So the major point to consider is, if you are a non-believer, who doesn’t believe in heaven or hell or even an afterlife of any kind… well, you will get exactly what you expect when you die. You’ll be dead.
What do I gain? If my faith is true, I will receive eternal life in paradise, possibly on a new Earth. If I am incorrect, I will die without knowledge of my mistake. However, I have also lived my life striving to do what is right towards my fellow humans, guided by the love that Jesus taught. Perhaps I have even influenced some individuals. Whose worldview requires further scrutiny? Yours or mine?

Remember Genesis? (It’s the 1st book in the bible) Well, genesis says that there was one hell of a flood many years ago. And everything on Earth basically died except the family of a single man and all the animals he brought with him on a huge ship he made. It causes quite the debate, or laughs, depending on your circle. I mean, where did all that water even come from anyway? The bible DOES indeed say it rained. Like a lot. But enough rain to cover all the Earth’s mountains? Let’s not skip where it says that water also came up from below… which also sounds ridiculous on the surface.

“That doesn’t even make sense! Now WHY would the bible make something like that up? ” Well, it didn’t just make it up. There is empirical scientific evidence. Take, for instance:

WHY ARE WE HERE?
As sort of a part two of Proof God Exists. Instead of adding more to it, I decided to make a new entry.
You must read the prior blog entry, Proof God exists, because that is the mindset I am in while writing this.
It is simple why we are here. God never gave us anything that is too difficult for us to understand. I believe there are two major reasons why we exist.
Now for the first one, if you are even fairly familiar with the Bible. You will notice how it goes on and on endlessly about the beauty in creation. The book of Job comes to mind immediately. Where God himself just can’t stop talking about how awesome his creations are and we should be so lucky to even witness it… So suck it up.
Just try to imagine a man who is ready to give up on life because he is suffering so badly. He’s lost everything. His entire family. All his money. All his vast estate is being attacked, burned down and his servants killed. And he is in constant debilitating pain to top it off. He cries out, only for his remaining friends to tell him to kill himself and curse God because Job must have done something wrong. Job is steadfast that he is blameless and then cries out to God…
and God literally replies by telling Job to grow a set and stop whining:
God then basically goes on a 700 bar battle rap response where he reminds Job who his daddy is. Quite a fascinating tale when you put things in perspective. Whether you believe this story is pure parable, or an actual historical account, I believe it’s a very important story. It is important in understanding how much we take just being alive for granted. We get to experience some amazing things. We get to experience things that the very angels in the Bible were jealous of. Life itself is a gift that we are very quick to overlook when things don’t go our way.
There are people out there with NOTHING. Literally paraplegics that depend on someone for each and every breath… they still find a way to appreciate creation and being alive!
Did Job have an honest gripe? Sure. Saying he was uncomfortable is an understatement. I couldn’t imagine how much more pissed Job would have been if he knew all these terrible things were being deliberately done to him because of a bet lol. I do not think God was trying to say Job’s complaints were insignificant. I think God is really standing on his business that He made us and we should be a bit more grateful even when we THINK that we are having just the worst life ever. Not to say our worries aren’t valid. What I’m saying is- no matter how bad things seem, life is STILL a gift.
Ultimately, we are supposed to be here waiting for our real reward in the afterlife, no? So why SHOULD God be so worried about our day-to-day aches, pains, wars, deaths, or really anything we complain about? They affect us dearly and harshly. Our pain affects our mental health. It hurts. It sucks.
It hurts bad to lose loved ones. It is AWFUL being poor, especially in the western world.
But do you care about the big picture? Listen, the vast majority of our pain is caused by US, Not God, in the first place. God gave us a specific set of rules to follow and pretty much promised us that life will also be difficult along the way. God gave us everything we need to thrive and be happy for free. Water literally falls out of the sky. Food grows from the trees. Air is all around. What do we do? We ignore his rules, make things infinitely harder for ourselves and then blame God for life sucking.
Life is hard. But it should only really be as hard as we are willing to work to farm the land and hunt for food and deal with cold winters and sicknesses here and there. Maybe a disagreement now and then at most.
But that’s not what happened is it? We humans needed to construct a massive system of pretend wealth that requires non-stop violence and chaos all over the world in the pursuit of this cartoonish avarice. And we are all pretty much complicit in it.
And all the while we are killing each other for various made up reasons- Angels in heaven look down at us with envy. They want to also feel love, lust, endorphins, and maybe even a little rage. Feeling the cool night winds and a warm rain in the summer. They want to experience how it feels to cool off in the water when it’s hot. They want to feel a warm person in their arms.
Things we take for granted every single day. Because we choose to further separate ourselves from God. We’d rather be in awe of whatever celebrity is popular at the moment. We worship billionaires. We only listen to the rich and we crap all over the poor, even when we are also poor.
That’s how amazing God is! He created us so wonderfully, so perfectly that we have convinced ourselves confidently that we don’t even need God. No God required! Only the joyless “pursuit of happiness”, which translates to money. In fact, People have come up with very convincing arguments that somehow there was once NOTHING, and from this NOTHING came everything we know of. I guess magically? Just kinda popped into existence, I guess, for no reason? Yep. There’s nothing, doing it’s thing and then all of a sudden boom… or bang? God? What for? What do we need God for?
Let’s switch gears. Look up at a star. What you are actually seeing is the light from that star as it was MILLIONS of years ago. At least according to our science books. You can look up and you are seeing millions of years into the past. These are merely the decorations that God gave us to simply ENJOY! His majesty, his awesome creation.
What did we humans do? In a hurry, we depleted God’s resources and polluted the sky nearly beyond repair. So now we can barely see the stars thru the light pollution and actual pollution. But we gotta make money right? That means we need the night sky flooded with artificial lights for our endless chain of commerce. People are tired, miserable, working graveyard shifts just to pay bills for services that God gave us for free. It’s kinda laughable.
